Metal tours announced: Deafheaven, Obituary, Toxic Holocaust, Drugs of Faith, Cloud Rat, Vastum, more

Tons of shows get announced every week, and it can be hard to keep up. Here are all the heavy music (metal, hardcore & more) tours, shows & fests that we posted on BV this week, and some new ones too…

PSYCHO LAS VEGAS

More bands have been added to the already-great Psycho Las Vegas 2020 lineup (August 14-16 at Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino), including Blue Oyster Cult, Satyricon, At The Gates (Slaughter of the Soul 25th anniversary set), Poison The Well (The Opposite of December 20th anniversary set), Boris, Mgla, and Abbath’s Motörhead tribute band Bömbers. Elder have also been revealed as playing the official pre-party Psycho Swim on 8/13. The new additions join previously announced bands Ty Segall, Mayhem, Blonde Redhead, Ulver, Windhand, Kaelan Mikla, Mephistofeles, and Watain. Tickets are on sale.

WARHORSE

One of our favorite sets from the last Psycho Vegas was the reunited Warhorse, so we’re thrilled to announce that we’ll be presenting their first NYC show since they reunited on February 1st at Saint Vitus in Brooklyn with Maryland’s Yatra and NJ’s Green Dragon. Tickets are on sale now. Their only other shows right now are January 16 at Middle East in their home state of MA, and Roadburn.

KROKUS

Krokus are still a band, but not for long. Farewell 2020 tour dates announced.

VASTUM

Tomb Mold, Gatecreeper and Blood Incantation may get most of the attention, but the consistently great and lyrically unique Vastum also put out one of this year’s best death metal albums. It’s called Orificial Purge, and they’ve played no shows in support of it yet because the members are busy with so many projects and day jobs, but they just announced a few more west coast dates (near their home of Oakland). Their current 2020 itinerary now looks like this:

2/21-22 Shadow Frost Music & Arts Festival – Frederick, MD
3/19 Astoria – Vancouver, BC
3/20 The Highline – Seattle, WA
3/21 Star Theatre – Portland, OR
8/01 Migration Fest @ Mr. Small’s Theatre – Pittsburgh, PA

As previously mentioned, Falls Of Rauros, Kowloon Walled City, Mizmor, Obsequiae, Tomb Mold, Ulthar, Immortal Bird, and more are already also announced on Migration Fest.

CLOUD RAT (and Witch Taint)

Like BrooklynVegan, Metal Injection turned 15 this year. Unlike BrooklynVegan, Metal Injection is having a party complete with the very funny and multi-talented (BrooklynVegan and Metal Injection contributor) Dave Hill as co-host, and a set by Dave’s now-real black metal band Witch Taint before a set by the maker of other one of this year’s best grindcore releases, Cloud Rat. PLUS, the December 17th Brooklyn show will include an all star jam, as you can see in the flyer below.

Michigan’s Cloud Rat is also playing SXSW in Austin and Roadburn in 2020. No other dates at the moment.

DRUGS OF FAITH / FED ASH

Virginia grinders Drugs of Faith (who are fronted by Rich Johnson of Agoraphobic Nosebleed) recently put out their first release in six years, Decay, and now they’re planning a weekend run with Syracuse’s Fed Ash for April. So far, they’ve revealed that the final date will be at Brooklyn’s Saint Vitus on 4/19 with Blame God and Fluoride (tickets).

SOULFLY / TOXIC HOLOCAUST

Max Cavalera’s band Soulfly and Portland thrashers Toxic Holocaust have sold out the 2/29 Saint Vitus show on their previously announced tour, so they added a second date happening two days later (3/2) at the same Brooklyn venue (tickets). All dates here.

DEAFHEAVEN / INTER ARMA / GREET DEATH or ALL YOUR SISTERS

Deafheaven announced a 10th anniversary tour with killer support from Inter Arma on almost all dates, and additional support varying by date from Greet Death and All Your Sisters (plus a few Texas shows with Greet Death and All Your Sisters but no Inter Arma).

MIDNIGHT

Midnight’s new album Rebirth By Blasphemy comes out January 24 via Metal Blade, but they’re hosting a listening party two weeks earlier at Brooklyn’s Saint Vitus on 1/10, which is one day before they open for Sacrifice at Brooklyn’s Market Hotel. They have other dates coming up too.

MAYHEM, ABBATH, GATECREEPER & IDLE HANDS

The LA edition of metal mag Decibel’s festival goes down this weekend (12/13-12/14 with Possessed, Nails, Vio-lence, Carcass, Gatecreeper, Sprit Adrift, and more), and today Decibel have also announced that an LA date has been added to the upcoming 2020 Decibel tour that features the unfuckwithable lineup of Mayhem, Abbath, Gatecreeper and Idle Hands. Tickets for the new March 23 show at the Fonda Theater in Los Angeles are now on sale. Updated dates (including Decibel’s 2020 Philly fest and NYC’s Webster Hall on April 4) here. Mayhem are also playing Hellfest and, as mentioned earlier in this post, Psycho Las Vegas next year.

CARCASS

As for Carcass, they just released their first new song in six years, which is an outtake from their new album which will be out in 2020 via Nuclear Blast. They’re set to make the live debut of that song at Decibel Metal & Beer Fest this weekend. They also play Power Trip‘s Evil Beat 2 festival in Dallas in January, and they’re touring Australia after that. More info here.

SONIC TEMPLE DAILY LINEUPS

Daily lineups are revealed and single-day tickets are on sale for Ohio’s Sonic Temple festival, which features Metallica, Slipknot, Deftones, Rancid, Anthrax, Testament, Suicidal Tendencies, Cypress Hill, Power Trip, Knocked Loose, Code Orange, Brutus, and more.

SWALLOW THE SUN

Finnish epic death-doomers Swallow the Sun will turn 20 in 2020, and they’ll celebrate the anniversary with their first-ever North American headlining tour. The “20 Years of Gloom, Beauty, and Despair” tour also supports the band’s 2019 album When A Shadow Is Forced Into The Light (out now on Century Media), and it will be opened by Infected Rain and Wheel. All dates and more info here.

SANCTION / SEEYOUSPACECOWBOY / VAMACHARA / TYPECASTE

This great metalcore tour package goes down next year, and it also includes support varying by date from Adrenaline (mem Queensway), Dying Wish, Crow Killer, and Foreign Hands. All dates and more info here.

WREKMEISTER HARMONIES

Wrekmeister Harmonies announced a new album and Europe tour, but before that tour they’ll open for Martin Bisi (who recorded their new album) at his Solstice release show in Brooklyn.

BLACK LABEL SOCIETY / OBITUARY / LORD DYING

Before Zakk Wylde assumes his position as Ozzy Osbourne’s guitarist on Ozzy’s 2020 tour, Zakk’s band Black Label Society will hit the road in February and March with killer support from death metal legends Obituary and the re-activated Lord Dying.

Meanwhile, Obituary are on a headlining tour as we speak. They just played their 1989 debut Slowly We Rot in full at Brooklyn’s Saint Vitus last night (12/12), and they’re doing 1990’s Cause of Death at the same venue tonight. After that, they play Philly, Worcester, Virginia Beach, and Richmond. All dates here. Check out last night’s setlist below.

MORBID ANGEL

New Yorkers can make it a whole OG death metal weekend by catching Obituary tonight, and then catching fellow Florida DM legends (and fellow Jeopardy!-referenced band) Morbid Angel when their ongoing tour with Watain and Incantation hits Brooklyn’s Warsaw on Saturday (12/14). They’re also in Hartford tonight, and they play Reading, Richmon, Charlotte, Atlanta, Tampa, and Ft. Lauderdale next. All dates here.
