Grim Reaper At the Gates

Metal tours announced: Midnight, Grim Reaper, Massacre, Slipknot, Mr. Bungle, more

Tons of shows get announced every week, and it can be hard to keep up. Here are all the heavy music (metal, hardcore & more) tours, shows & fests that we posted on BV this week, and some new ones too…

MIDNIGHT / SAVAGE MASTER / ROTTEN UK

Fresh off releasing their new album Rebirth by Blasphemy, speed metallers Midnight have announced a headlining tour with Savage Master and Rotten UK. Things kick off in Canada, and the tour also hits Boston, Long Island, Baltimore, Buffalo, Detroit, Chicago, and Columbus. Later in the year, Midnight play Psycho Las Vegas. All dates here.

STEVE GRIMMETT’S GRIM REAPER

Old school heavy metal greats Grim Reaper now feature frontman Steve Grimmett joined by much newer members and go by Steve Grimmett’s Grim Reaper, and this version of the band already have two new albums, 2016’s Walking in the Shadows and last year’s At the Gates. Grimmett’s voice is a bit more grizzled than it was in the ’80s, but the new stuff otherwise pretty much picks up where Grim Reaper left off and their live shows mostly feature the classics. They’ll tour North America this September/October, including a Brooklyn show on 9/3 at The Kingsland. Dates here.

SANNHET

Not a tour, but Brooklyn post-metal greats Sannhet have scheduled a hometown one-off happening March 7 at Rough Trade with Dreamcrusher and ariadne.

SYSTEM OF A DOWN / FAITH NO MORE / KORN / HELMET / RUSSIAN CIRCLES

This insanely good lineup plays two huge LA shows this May. They’re the first (and currently only) announced US shows of 2020 for both System of a Down and Faith No More.

MR. BUNGLE

Not only is Mike Patton busy this year with Faith No More, his band Mr. Bungle just played their first show in nearly 20 years this week. This tour also sees them playing the songs from their thrash-inspired 1986 demo The Raging Wrath of The Easter Bunny for the first time in over 30 years. To do so, original members Mike Patton, Trevor Dunn, and Trey Spruance are getting some help from thrash legends Scott Ian (Anthrax) and Dave Lombardo (ex-Slayer). They’ve also got a killer list of openers, including Possessed, Full of Hell, Melvins, and much more. Watch full-set video of the first show, see the setlist, and see the list of remaining dates (and openers) here.

OZZY LISTENING & TATTOO PARTIES

Get an Ozzy Osbourne-inspired tattoo while getting a first listen to Ordinary Man, in a city near you.

TESTAMENT / THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER / MUNICIPAL WASTE

Thrash legends Testament will release their new album Titans of Creation this year, melodic death metal vets The Black Dahlia Murder will release their new album Verminous this year, and both will tour together with comparatively newer thrash greats Municipal Waste.

MASSACRE

Florida death metal vets Massacre are back with original vocalist Kam Lee and original bassist Michael Borders, and they’re playing a rare NYC show and Maryland Deathfest.

DESERTFEST NYC

The initial lineup for Desertfest NYC is out, including Corrosion of Conformity, Dead Meadow, Conan, Stoned Jesus (US debut), The Atomic Bitchwax, Bongzilla, R.I.P., Yatra, Huntsmen (who have a new album and other dates coming), and more.

UNCLE ACID / TWIN TEMPLE

UK doom/psych greats Uncle Acid & the Deadbeats are returning to North America this spring for a tour surrounding their appearance at Bonnaroo, and support comes from rising satanic doo-wop duo Twin Temple.

SLIPKNOT

Slipknot have announced another ‘Knotfest Roadshow’ tour behind last year’s genuinely good We Are Not Your Kind, with support coming from A Day To Remember, Underoath, and Code Orange.

SECT

Straightedge supergroup SECT (mem Cursed, Earth Crisis, Catharsis, Racetraitor, Fall Out Boy, etc), who released the killer Blood Of The Beasts LP last year on Southern Lord, are opening the West Coast dates of Darkest Hour’s 25th anniversary tour, alongside Misery Signals, and they also announced that they’ll do three headlining Northeast shows before that, hitting Pittsburgh, Philly, and Baltimore this March.

GUNS N’ ROSES / THE SMASHING PUMPKINS

Guns N’ Roses are heading out on a stadium tour this year, and support on a handful of dates comes from none other than The Smashing Pumpkins.

THE HU

Mongolian folk metal band The Hu are coming back to the US for Coachella and will be touring extensively while here. They’ll hit South America first, playing Lollapaloozas in Chile, Argentina and Brazil, than then North American stops include Bakersfield, Tucson, Denver, Kansas City (MO), Detroit, Indianapolis, Nashville, Atlanta, Pensacola, Camden, NJ (the MMR*B*Q with Disturbed, Puddle of Mudd, more), Columbus’ Sonic Temple fest, Memphis, Dallas, and more. Head here for all dates.

D.R.I.

Crossover thrash legends D.R.I. (whose former bassist Josh Pappe sadly passed away over the weekend) remain very busy, and they’ve got tons of tour dates lined up for 2020, including one at Brooklyn’s Kingsland on September 10. All dates here.

BLACK AND BLUE BOWL 2020

Annual NYC hardcore festival Black & Blue Bowl has announced it will host its 2020 edition at NYC venue The Brooklyn Monarch.

Morbid Angel, Watain and Incantation recently toured North America together. We saw the Brooklyn show, lived to tell about it and brought back these photos to prove it:
