Metallica headlining 5 US festivals in 2020, playing 2 nights at each

Metallica will headline at least five rock and metal festivals across the US in 2020. They’ve been announced as the headliner of a series of Danny Wimmer Presents festivals, including Louder Than Life, Aftershock, Welcome To Rockville, Epicenter and Sonic Temple Music + Arts, and they’re performing two nights at each festival! Metallica will headline the Friday and Sunday of each, and all ten sets will have different setlists. A Saturday headliner is TBA.

The announcement was teased in a series of tweets from the festivals earlier this month, where a message from a “hacker” was accompanied by a video of a distorted, computerized voice. “The page you are trying to access is no longer under admin control,” the tweets read. “We’ve waited long enough. We’ve taken matters into our own hands. We will get what we want. It’s simple. You have until 10/10 12PT [3 PM ET] to give us what we want or we leak server access credentials. You have 3 days.” In addition to the tweets from the festivals, Metallica launched MetallicaXX.com, which showed only a clock counting down to today (10/10) at 3 PM ET, the same time the “hacker” was threatening to “leak server access credentials.”

Epicenter takes place May 1-3 at the Charlotte Motor Speedway in Charlotte, NC;
Welcome to Rockville is May 8-10 at Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, FL;
Sonic Temple is May 15-17 at MAPFRE Stadium in Columbus, OH;
Louder Than Life is September 18-20 at KY Expo Center in Louisville, KY;
Aftershock is October 9-11 at Discovery Park in Sacramento, CA.

Tickets are on presale now for fan club members and past purchasers of Danny Wimmer Presents events. The public on-sale begins Monday (10/14) at noon Eastern. Stay tuned for the rest of the lineups for all five fests.

UPDATE (11/19): Epicenter lineup announced.

Metallica are also holding their second annual charity concert in San Francisco on March 28, 2020; playing the big Live Aid-style Global Citizen Festival on September 26, 2020; and touring South America with Greta Van Fleet. All dates here.
