MGMT Oracular Spectacular

MGMT planning new LP, playing festivals; 'Oracular Spectacular' turning 10

MGMT haven’t released a new album since 2013’s psychedelic self-titled LP, which may have lacked the pop appeal of Oracular Spectacular, but did have plenty of cool stuff going on. I’m pretty excited to see where they go next, and it does look like we might be getting a new album this year. They posted a couple teasers on Facebook about it in April, and in November they tweeted, “Wanting badly to get you guys new MGMT music asap.” Now they’ve begun announcing 2017 festival appearances.

They play Alabama’s Hangout Fest in May and NYC’s Panorama in July. They play the first day of Panorama (7/28), which also has Frank Ocean, Solange, Future Islands, Spoon, Foxygen, and more. Those are there only announced dates at the moment but stay tuned for (presumably) more.

In perhaps the most exciting news, their classic album Oracular Spectacular will turn 10 years old this year and the band recently posted a clip of “Time Pretend” with the caption “A bit of nostalgia brought on by an arachnid…” Are they hinting at something?
