MGMT & Warpaint played Capitol Theatre before Webster Hall run (pics, setlist)

MGMT‘s spring tour hit the NYC area on Monday night for a show at Port Chester’s Capitol Theatre before their three-night run at Webster Hall. The band are still riding high off last year’s terrific Little Dark Age, which found them reincorporating the pop vibes of their hit debut, Oracular Spectacular, after a few albums of more experimental sounds. The crowd was into it from the beginning, dancing to newer songs like “When You Die” and “Me and Michael” in addition to late-’00s hits like “Electric Feel,” and “Time to Pretend” (which they dropped early in the night). They’ve also been adding theatrical elements to their shows over the last year, like playing “When You’re Small” on a miniature piano at the edge of the stage during the encore, and there was a inflatable creature that grew throughout the show.

Making for a great double bill at these shows are Warpaint, whose short set included “Love is to Die,” “So Good,” “New Song,” and “Disco/Very.” Pictures from the whole show are in the gallery above and setlists for both bands are below.

MGMT and Warpaint start their three-night, sold-out run at Webster Hall tonight (5/22).
