Mikal Cronin announces new album, 'Seeker,' shares "Show Me"

Mikal Cronin will release Seeker, his first album in four years, on October 25 via Merge. He wrote most of the album in a cabin in the mountains of Southern California which he was forced to evacuate when the fires happened last year. Heading back to L.A., Mikal made the record with engineer Jason Quever (of Papercuts) and Ty Segall’s Freedom Band backing him. “I wanted to bring you into the room. Jason and I talked about the Beatles’ White Album a lot when placing mics,” says Cronin. “I brought a charred pine cone from the woods to the studio, just in case it would help. Fire—specifically its cycle of purging and reseeding the landscape—is a central theme to the record. Death and rebirth.”

The first single is “Show Me” which has some lovely, dramatic strings which owes a little to Tom Petty, which Mikal cops to. “‘Show Me’ is a song about feeling small in an overwhelming world,” says Cronin. “There’s a not-quite-subtle hint of the Heartbreakers in the instrumentation and arrangement, having asked many friends to play or sing. It’s one of my favorite songs from the album, I hope you like it too.” Watch the video, which features Shannon Lay, below.

Mikal and Shannon (who has an album coming out on Sub Pop) will be out on tour together this fall including a stop at NYC’s Bowery Ballroom on November 20 (tickets). Upcated tour dates are listed below.
