Minus the Bear made a playlist of songs that inspired 'Planet of Ice' ahead of tour
Tonight (4/19), Minus the Bear will begin their 10th anniversary tour for Planet of Ice. Ahead of the tour, we asked the band to make us a playlist of songs that influenced the decade-old album. As it’s their proggiest album, you may not be surprised to learn that the playlist includes lots of Yes, Pink Floyd and King Crimson (and other cool stuff too). It’s a great batch of songs, and you can listen to it below via a Spotify playlist which has almost every song (Spotify only has a live version of King Crimson’s “21st Century Schizoid Man” and doesn’t have “Lark’s Tongues In Aspic” at all). The complete list of songs is below too.
The East Coast/Midwest shows on the tour will be opened by The Coathangers, including the NYC-area shows on April 25 at The Stone Pony, April 26 at Warsaw and April 27 at Irving Plaza. Tickets for those shows are still available.
The West Coast/Southwest dates are with Velvet Teen-related band The New Trust, who also play a BrooklynVegan-presented NYC show before the tour on May 22 at Alphaville (tickets).
Listen to Minus the Bear’s playlist, along with the video for “Knights” from Planet of Ice, below.
