Missy Elliott - Iconology

Missy Elliott releasing collection of new songs tonight; pop-up museum opens in NYC

Missy Elliott has announced a “collection of new songs” called Iconology, due out tonight (8/23 at 12 AM). While she’s released some singles since then, most recently a collaborative track with Lizzo earlier this year, Missy’s last full album was 2005’s The Cookbook.

Missy dropped news of the release on her Instagram, where she writes:

This year has been a tremendous year for me…I am humbled and grateful. THANK YOU for allowing me to smell the roses. You, my fans, and God are the reason I am here and have celebrated every milestone with me! So, I have a SURPRISE for you… let’s continue the celebration at midnight tonight…I’m dropping a collection of new songs! Let’s #ThrowItBack to a time when music just felt good and made us want to dance! Sincerely, Dr. Melissa “Missy” Elliott #Iconology

Stay tuned to hear Iconology starting at midnight.

Meanwhile, in conjunction with the VMAs, a pop-up Museum of Missy Elliott will open at 632 Broadway between Houston and Bleeker on August 24-25. It’s described as “an interactive museum experience honoring her work and the creative visionaries behind some of her most iconic music videos: June Ambrose, Hype Williams, Dave Myers, HiHat, Billy B and Gloria Elias-Foeillet,” but reservations to visit are currently sold out.
