Mitski releases new song "Happy"

Mitski already shared the excellent lead single “Your Best American Girl” off her upcoming album Puberty 2 (due 6/17 via Dead Oceans), and now she’s revealed the opening track, “Happy.” Like the first single, “Happy” makes it pretty clear that this album is a progression from its DIY-rock-oriented predecessor. It opens with electronic drums and eventually brings in horns, and it’s got Mitski as lyrically honest and melodically sharp as ever. Listen below, alongside the video for “Your Best American Girl.”

Mitski’s tour with Japanese Breakfast and Jay Som hits NYC on June 20 at Bowery Ballroom (sold out) and July 27 at Music Hall of Williamsburg (tickets). She also plays NYU’s Strawberry Festival this Friday (5/6) with Porches and Beach Fossils. That’s free and goes from 12:30 to 4:30 PM.
