Miya Folick has been on tour supporting her 2018 debut full length album, Premonitions, and she stopped in Brooklyn on Saturday (3/2) night for a show at Elsewhere. Miya’s live show has come a long way since I last saw her, during CMJ 2015. As her music has moved in a poppier direction, her onstage persona has likewise grown in charisma to match it. Performing at what she said was her largest headlining show to date, Miya commanded the stage, backed by a three-piece band wearing Barrie shirts. After running through the new Premonitions material, she ended the set with a cover of Joni Mitchell’s “Woodstock” that really showed off the range of her powerful voice.

Brooklyn dream-pop quintet Barrie opened Saturday night’s show; their debut album Happy to Be Here is due out May 3 via Winspear. They have a few more tour dates left with Miya, before both acts hit Austin for SXSW next week. After that, Barrie head overseas for more touring. They’ve also added another NYC show; they’ll open for Hand Habits at Bowery Ballroom on April 10 (tickets).
