Montreal band Vesuvio Solo released 'Don't Leave Me in the Dark' (listen), playing Brooklyn this week

Montreal’s Vesuvio Solo, a new band from onetime TOPS bassist Thom Gillies, make sensuous pop with nods to ’70s soft rock and ’80s romanticism via a terrifiic sense of space and melody. (Is there a midpoint between George Michael and Prefab Sprout? They may be it.) The band’s new album Don’t Leave Me in the Dark was co-produced by Pat Jordache and showcases some very inspired arrangements that go beyond obvious ’80s touchstones (though those, like smooth sax, are here too). If it’s sometimes too airy for its good, there’s a smart sophistication and some killer hooks that pull you back. You can stream the whole thing below.

Having just wrapped up an EU tour with Promise Keeper, Vesuvio Solo will be in NYC this week, playing Alphaville on Thursday, November 3 with Teen Body and Bud Nicholas. Tickets are on sale. The group’s only other upcoming show is in Montreal on 11/5. Dates are listed, along with the album stream, below.
