Moogfest 2017: Day 1 & 2 in pics (Michael Stipe, 808 State, Animal Collective, more)

The 2017 edition of Moogfest happened in Durham, NC over the weekend, bringing a wide array of electronics-friendly music, talks, workshops and special events over the course of its four days. Pictures from the first two days (5/18 & 5/19) are in the gallery above.

Day 1 featured UK acid house icons 808 State performing their first U.S. show in 20 years, plus a “durational” performance from Moor Mother, as well as Omar Souleyman, Mykki Blanco, Gotye, S U R V I V E, and rapper Talib Kweli. The latter was introduced by comedian Hannibal Buress, who ended up hanging out at Moogfest the whole weekend, moderating conversations with Animal Collective & Syrinx and Flying Lotus.

Day 2 included a talk with Michael Stipe (who is producing the new Fischerpooner LP and premiered solo music at the fest), and performances by Animal Collective, Princess Nokia, Zola Jesus (who also played Red Bull Music Academy in NYC the next day), techno legend Derrick May, Jessy Lanza, Simian Mobile Disco, and more.

We’ll have pics from the rest of Moogest up soon. In other news, Moog just unveiled the Subsequent 37 CV synth that features presets made by 808 State and S U R V I V E.
