more Grateful Dead tribute songs released (Perfume Genius & Sharon Van Etten, Bonnie 'Prince' Billy, more)

Perfume Genius at Pitchfork Festival 2015 (more by James Richards IV)

Six songs were already released from the Dessner-curated Grateful Dead tribute album, and now five more have come out. These include Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy & Friends doing “Rubin & Cherise,” Charles Bradley & Menahan Street Band taking on “Cumberland Blues,” Jim James & Friends covering “Candyman,” Perfume Genius, Sharon Van Etten & Friends with “To Lay Me Down,” and Unknown Mortal Orchestra doing “Shakedown Street.” Like the previously-heard covers, these are worth checking out if you’re a fan of these artists, as well as if you’re a Deadhead, and especially if you’re both. Listen below.

Day of the Dead comes out May 20 via 4AD, and will benefit Red Hot. The National and several impressive guests will also perform a Dead tribute live at at the Aaron Dessner/Justin Vernon-curated Eaux Claires Festival in Wisconsin.

UPDATE: There will be a listening party in NYC on May 10 at Brooklyn Bowl with “Aaron Dessner, Bryce Dessner, & Scott Devendorf DJing exclusive first listens from the 59 song compilation.” That starts at 8 PM and it’s totally free.
