More that 60 people were injured, including 19 who were hospitalized on Friday (12/30), at the Lorne Falls Festival, part of the four-city festival in Australia. From the Sydney Morning Herald:

Creative Industries Minister Martin Foley on Saturday described the stampede as “unacceptable” and “very dangerous” and wished all those who were injured a speedy recovery.

“Worksafe has investigated and worked with Falls management and has recorded that they’ve made some immediate requirements for change to the facility to make sure that there is not a repeat event.”

The stampede happened as fans rushed from one headline act – DMA’s in the large Grand Theatre tent – to see another – London Grammar on the Valley Stage – just before 10pm.

Victoria Police said the festival-goers were injured after some crowd members at the front of the throng of people leaving the tent lost their footing.

The Festival continued for its final day (January 31) despite the incident. Meanwhile, The Australian reports that extra security has been added at the Marion Bay Falls Festival after three girls were sexually assaulted:

One girl was assaulted on Thursday in the front right section of the moshpit during a performance by DJ Hot Tub Time Machine about 11pm, Tasmania Police said on Saturday.

Another girl reported being assaulted in the campgrounds about 9pm on Thursday, while a third girl was assaulted about 2pm on Friday during Illy’s performance. The girls are receiving counselling and support.

“Extra security measures have been put in place for the moshpit area as a result of these incidents,” police said in a statement.

“If you become isolated and feel unsafe at any time, go straight to the nearest police officer, security guard and talk to them”.

Detectives are appealing for any witnesses who may have seen the incidents to come forward.
