Austin’s 18-member Mother Falcon released an album, doing two residencies in NYC (dates, live videos & LP stream)

by Andrew Sacher

Mother Falcon

Austin’s 18-piece baroque pop collective Mother Falcon released their sophomore album, You Knew, earlier this month, and maybe it’s a little too soon to get nostalgic feelings from their sound, but it sounds a whole lot more like it came out around 2006. It immediately brings to mind the time when bands like Broken Social Scene, Arcade Fire, and Beirut were some of the biggest breakouts in indie and tons of new bands felt like they needed just a little more violins and a little less guitar riffs. Now, those bands are either huge or on hiatus, so it’s a little exciting to have a new band channeling that kind of energy. Especially since it should be pretty cool to see 18 people crammed onto a tiny stage.

And you’ll be able to do just that in NYC this June, because the band have two upcoming residencies here. One happens at Manhattan’s Joe’s Pub on June 2, 9, 23, and 30 and the other happens at Brooklyn’s Littlefield on June 4, 11, 18, and 25. [Can you fit 18 people on Joe’s Pub’s stage? – Bill] The 6/30 show at Joe’s Pub and the 6/25 show at Littlefield will see the band performing Radiohead’s OK Computer in its entirety (which they’ve done before), and the rest are all regular Mother Falcon shows. They’ve got a reputation for being a good live band too, which you can see for yourself in some live videos below (including one of them playing “Paranoid Android”). Tickets for all Littlefield shows and all Joe’s Pub shows are on sale now.

All upcoming dates are listed, along with a full album stream of You Know, the video for its single, “Dirty Summer,” and those live videos, below…
