Justin Courtney Pierre In The Drink

Motion City Soundtrack's Justin Courtney Pierre announces debut solo LP & tour

Motion City Soundtrack broke up in 2016 after a farewell tour in 2016, and now frontman Justin Courtney Pierre is going solo. His debut solo album In The Drink comes out October 12 via Epitaph, and the lead single is the title track, which actually isn’t a million miles away from where Motion City Soundtrack left off. The album was produced by his MCS bandmate Joshua Cain, and Justin played every instrument on the album except drums, which were recorded by David Jarnstrom (Gratitude, BNLX), trumpet, and backing vocals.

“It just kind of happened,” Justin told Billboard, regarding his decision to continue playing music after Motion City Soundtrack broke up. “At the end of the day I didn’t know what else to do other than write music. I think I flirted with the idea of become an accountant, but then my wife told me that’s not a reality. That’s work. And she was right…And I had been kicking around the idea of doing something like this for a while, anyway. I had just never pulled the trigger.”

Justin is also in the process of putting together a live band, and he’ll tour this fall, including one leg with Pronoun and one with Thin Lips.

The run with Pronoun includes shows at NYC’s Bowery Ballroom on November 6 and Asbury Park’s House of Independents on November 10. Tickets for Bowery and Asbury go on sale Saturday (8/4) at noon and Friday (8/3) at 10 AM, respectively, with a Citi presale underway now for Bowery. All dates are listed below.
