Mount Eerie Wolves in the Throne Room

Mount Eerie remixed by Wolves in the Throne Room for new picture disc 7"

Back in 2009, Mount Eerie released his great, black metal-inspired album Wind’s Poem, and now two songs from that album are being remixed by an actual black metal band, Wolves in the Throne Room. The description reads:

Two raw and unmixed songs from “Wind’s Poem” were transferred from the original analog tape masters into the ProTools HDX system at Owl Lodge. The studio is situated in the woods near Olympia, WA and is the headquarters of Wolves in the Throne Room.

A single vocal track from “Lost Wisdom” was layered with newly recorded digital synths and a heavy bass from a vintage Korg MS-20. Wisps of the original organ and guitar appear in a heavily processed form.

“Mouth of Sky” was created using techniques inspired by Lee “Scratch” Perry. In this case, the original tracks were routed to a variety of analog and digital FX units via the faders on the studio’s Harrison PP1 console. The mix was performed in real time.

You can order the remixes as a picture disc 7″ on Phil Elverum’s website or digitally on Bandcamp. It’s due out next week.

We caught Mount Eerie performing at Norwegian metal fest Inferno Festival in 2012. Earlier this year, he wrote about black metal for our metal sister site Invisible Oranges.

More recently, Mount Eerie released two highly acclaimed albums that were sadly inspired by the death of his first wife Geneviève Castrée. Many of the songs from those albums are on his new live album, (after), which was recorded at 2017’s Le Guess Who? festival and released today. It’s not streaming at the moment but you can hear one song below and pick up a copy here.

Wolves in the Throne Room last released the great Thrice Woven last year (which actually followed their very non-metal Celestite), and they’re touring with Behemoth and At the Gates in support of it this fall. All dates, including NYC’s Playstation Theater on 11/3, are listed below.
