‘Mr. Robot’ returns in July (w/ Joey Bada$$); soundtracks being released on Geoff Barrow’s Invada label
USA Network’s surprise hit Mr. Robot is set to return for its second season on July 13. Where this show, very reductively about computer hackers fighting corporations, will go in S2 is anyone’s guess, but one thing to look forward to is rapper Joey Bada$$ joining the cast as, according to The Hollywood Reporter, a new friend of main character Elliot (Rami Malek) the neighborhood. “He often talks excessively to Elliot, advising him and philosophizing the meanings of life.” Is he real or imagined, though? We’ll see. You can watch the trailer for Mr. Robot S2 below.
A big part of Mr. Robot’s appeal is its exacting sense of style, from the Fincher-esque cinematography, to its use of pop music, and Mac Quayle’s eerie ambient score which works so well with the somewhat detached view of the series. Quayle’s Mr. Robot score (which recalls Vangelis and Tangerine Dream) is being released via Invada Records (the label run by Portishead’s Geoff Barrow) on two double-vinyl-LP volumes. Each one comes in a deluxe gatefold sleeve with an 11″ x 22″ poster. Preorders are available now. You can stream tracks from each volume, and check out artwork, below.
