Nada Surf played 'Let Go' and lots more at Brooklyn Steel (pics, video, setlist)

Nada Surf brought their Let Go 15th Anniversary tour to Brooklyn Steel on Thursday night. Matthew Caws, who called Williamsburg home back when Let Go was released in 2003 (2002 in Europe), came out on stage alone with an acoustic guitar and began strumming “Blizzard of ’77,” and was soon joined by bandmates Ira Elliot and Daniel Lorca. They played the whole thing — a record that contains some of their best-loved songs like “Happy Kid,” “Inside of Love” and “Hi-Speed Soul” — front to back with some anecdotes peppered in, too.

Let Go was just the beginning, though, as they came back for a second set (and three-song encore) of songs from the rest of their catalog, including “Do It Again,” “Always Love,” “Your Legs Grow” and show-closer “Blankest Year” from Let Go‘s follow-up The Weight is a Gift, their mid-90s MTV hit “Popular,” and lots more. They played “Stalemate” from their debut album which morphed into a cover of Joy Division’s “Love Will Tear Us Apart,” and back again. Setlist, Instagrams and video from Nada Surf’s Brooklyn Steel are below.
