Nadia Sirota (yMusic, ACME) hosting four-night residency at Symphony Space w/ Nico Muhly, Richard Reed Parry & more

Nadia Sirota, violinist and founding member of ACME, yMusic, and the Wordless Music Orchestra, will be hosting a four-evening residency at NYC’s Symphony Space from February 1 – 5. Joining her will be: violist Liam Byrne (of Fretwork) with a world premiere by David Lang on February 1; electronic musician Valgeir Sigurðsson performing music from his score to the film Dreamland (live with video) on February 2; Richard Reed Parry of Arcade Fire on February 4; and, finally, an ensemble including Byrne, Sigurðsson, and Nico Muhly in the world premiere of Donnacha Dennehy’s “Tessellatum” for viola, viols, and electronics on February 5.

Monday, February 1 (7:30 pm): Old and New

Nadia Sirota, viola and Liam Byrne, viol, and viol consort (Doug Balliett, Gabriel Cabezas, Loren Ludwig, Zoe Weiss), cello, voices (Mellissa Hughes, Jamie Jordan, and Kirsten Sollek), and Chris Thompson, percussion.

Music from the Renaissance and the 21st century by David Lang (world premiere of new work plus just for 3 singers, viola, cello, and percussion), Nico Muhly (Slow for 5 viols), Alexander Agricola, William Byrd, Orlando Gibbons, and others.​ Including Nadia in discussion with David Lang.

Tuesday, February 2 (7:30 pm): Dreamland: Film with Live Music

A suite of Sigurðsson’s music from the Icelandic documentary Dreamland, played live with video. Dreamland examines the environmental risks of building enormous dams to generate cheap hyrdro-electric energy. Including Sirota in discussion with Sigurðsson.​

Thursday, February 4 (7:30 pm): Heart and Breath: Nadia Sirota + Richard Reed Parry (world premiere of new addition)
