Nellie McKay made a video for "My Romance," touring
Nellie McKay is gearing up to embark on another tour supporting 2018’s Sister Orchid, and she’s also released a video for “My Romance,” a cover of the 1935 Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart-penned song. Nellie’s take has her singing over some quietly upbeat piano, and the nightswimming-themed video matches the song well. If Nellie’s version of the song sounds like a vocal jazz song from over half a century ago, that’s probably very intentional. “Jazz used to be underground, and it’s become family friendly. To me, it’s the devil’s music, and that’s why it appeals. Who wants to be a role model?,” she says.
Her tour includes a five-night run at NYC’s Birdland Jazz Club on March 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9. Tickets are on sale now. All dates are listed below.
