Nelly arrested for rape, released without charges

Nelly has been arrested on second degree rape charges in Auburn, WA, according to FOX Q13 News. Real name Cornell Iral Haynes Jr., Nelly was put in custody earlier Saturday morning (10/7) after a woman called authorities at 3:45 AM, claiming she was raped by the artist on his tour bus. Nelly is currently on tour with Florida Georgia Line and played Auburn’s White River Amphitheatre on Friday night and are scheduled to play Ridgefield, WA Saturday night.

Representatives for Nelly gave a statement to TMZ: “Nelly is the victim of a completely fabricated allegation. Our initial investigation, clearly establishes the allegation is devoid of credibility and is motivated by greed and vindictiveness. I am confident, once the scurrilous accusation is thoroughly investigated, there will be no charges. Nelly is prepared to pursue all all legal avenues to redress any damage caused by this clearly false allegation.”

UPDATE: USA Today reports that Nelly was released without charges. His manager also mentions that he will not be performing at Saturday’s show in Ridgefield.
