Netflix/Marvel's 'Luke Cage' release "Street Level Hero" videos tracing series' hip-hop inspirations

Method Man and Cheo Coker

Marvel/Netflix series Luke Cage premieres in a month (September 30) and it was already clear then that the show would have a heavy hip-hop component, as the first trailer was set to Ol’ Dirty Bastard‘s “Shimmy Shimmy Ya” and it was announced that the episodes would be named after Gang Starr songs. Now Netflix is rolling out a series of “Street Level Hero” videos that delve more into the musical elements of the show.

They’ve shared the first video, which features music supervisors Adrian Younge and A Tribe Called Quest’s Ali Shaheed Muhammad talking about their process for crafting the musical landscape of the show. We also see Method Man and A$AP Ferg weighing in on the show, along with showrunner Cheo Coker and star Mike Colter making appearances. This is yet another reason to get excited for this show, which follows some other connected Marvel/Netflix collaborations like Jessica Jones and Daredevil

You can check out that video below, along with the latest trailer for the series. And keep an eye out for more of these Street Level Hero Music videos to come.
