Paul Bearer Records Collecting Dust

‘Music Driven,’ the music film screening series at Williamsburg’s Nitehawk Cinema (that’s co-presented by BrooklynVegan), continues with new screenings added for August and September.

On Saturday, August 4 and Sunday, August 5, the theater will screen Ryuichi Sakamoto: Coda, the 2017 Stephen Nomura Schible-directed documentary on acclaimed and influential Japanese composer and Yellow Magic Orchestra co-founder Ryuichi Sakamoto. Those are both brunch screenings, which start at 11:30 AM. Tickets are on sale here, and you can watch the trailer below.

Then on Thursday, September 13, Nitehawk is screening Records Collecting Dust II, which…

focuses on the East Coast cities of Boston, New York and Washington DC, and includes in depth interviews with twenty eight highly influential people from the 1980’s hardcore punk rock music scene. Talking about the music, the bands and the records that forever changed their lives. Including Ian MacKaye of Minor Threat/Fugazi, John Joseph of Cro-Mags, Dave Smalley of DYS/Dag Nasty, Paul Bearer of Sheer Terror, Bob Cenci of Jerry’s Kids, Amy Pickering of Dischord Records, Walter Schreifels of Gorilla Biscuits/Quicksand, Roger Miret of Agnostic Front and Clif Croce of The Freeze.

There’s a post-screening Q&A with director Jason Blackmore, plus musicians Paul Bearer (Sheer Terror), Tom Lyle (Government Issue) and Michael Hampton (SOA/Faith/Embrace). Tickets are on sale here and you can watch the trailer below.

Not part of Music driven, but there’s another notable music film being screened at Nitehawk this Thursday (7/19), the new Nico biopic, Nico, 1988 (tickets). There’s also a Nico tribute show happening at LPR on 8/2 with Marissa Nadler, U.S. Girls, Julie Byrne, and more (tickets).
