Nick Cave and Warren Ellis have composed the score for dark comedy War Machine, a new Netflix original movie made by David Michôd and starring Brad Pitt, Tilda Swinton, Topher Grace, Anthony Michael Hall and more. Cave and Ellis, who have worked together on many scores, including The Road,  said in a joint statement, “Together we made a score that was both light and dark, propulsive and meditative at the same time. We developed a kind of ‘spiritual electronics’ that captured both the melancholy and the terrible absurdity of the Afghan war,. It was a great pleasure to work with David Michôd, who is not only an extraordinary filmmaker but a musician too. Our favorite score!” You can listen part of the score below.

Both the film and the soundtrack will be out May 26. Watch the film’s trailer, which uses Plastic Bertrand’s “Ca Plane Pour Moi,” below.

Nick Cave’s tour hits Brooklyn this weekend for shows at Kings Theater on Friday (5/26, sold out) and Saturday (5/27, tickets). We’re giving away a pair of tickets to the 5/27 show too. He’ll then be back for two sold-out Beacon Theatre shows in June.
