Nilüfer Yanya announces debut LP, touring with Sharon Van Etten (listen to "In Your Head")

London soul-pop artist Nilüfer Yanya has announced her debut full-length album, Miss Universe, due out March 22, 2019 via ATO Records. It was co-produced by The Invisible’s Dave Okumu (also her former guitar teacher), John Congleton (who also produced tourmate Sharon Van Etten‘s new album Remind Me Tomorrow), Oli Barton-Wood, Will Archer, M.T. Hadley, and Jazzi Bobbi and Luke Bower, her backing band. See the cover art and tracklist for Miss Universe below.

Nilüfer previously shared the album’s final track “Heavyweight Champion of the Year,” and now she’s sharing a second single, “In Your Head,” which you can listen to below. “Sometimes my mind plays tricks on me and I get trapped,” Nilüfer says about the song. “There’s the things I need disguised as things I think I only want, things I think I’m choosing out of choice not necessity… I think that’s what I wrote the song about, but what’s interesting to me, and what I think I was trying to get at, is the illusion of freedom.”

As mentioned, Nilüfer supports Sharon Van Etten on her upcoming tour, which kicks off on February 6 in Washington DC and stops in NYC for a show at Beacon Theatre on February 9. Tickets for the Beacon show (which also includes a set from Fred Armisen) are on sale now.

After her dates with Sharon, Nilüfer heads overseas for more touring in the spring. See all of her upcoming tour dates below.
