Nine Inch Nails, Wilco, R.E.M., Janelle Monae, Patti Smith & more contribute setlists for charity auction
Wilco, R.E.M., Nine Inch Nails, Patti Smith, Steely Dan, The Who, Death Cab For Cutie, A$AP Rocky, Rush, The Dixie Chicks, Sigur Ros, Janelle Monae, Mitski, Andrew Bird and other bands and artists have contributed autographed setlists which are being auctioned off to raise money for youth writing and activism centers. Founded by writers Nick Hornby (High Fidelity), Dave Eggers (A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius) and Michael Chabon (The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay), the initiative is called Setlists for Young Voices, and specifically benefits London’s Ministry of Stories as well as The International Congress of Youth Voices which will bring together teen writers and activists in San Juan, Puerto Rico this summer. “One of my friends used to stand at the front of the show so he could read the setlist and call out the name of the next song. It really used to annoy the band,” Hornby says. “So this is a way to satisfy your music-geek side without aggravating your favorite musicians.”
Bidding for the setlist auctions begins tonight (4/22) at 7 PM Pacific (10 PM Eastern) via Setlists for Young Voices website. Check out the setlists up for bid here.
