No Joy releasing collaborative EP w/ Sonic Boom, share lead track "Obsession"

No Joy are continuing their string of EPs with a collaborative record made with former Spacemen 3 member Sonic Boom (aka Pete Kember). While the germ of inspiration is fuzzy, Main No Joy songwriter Jasamine White-Gluz and Kember began trading emails not long after No Joy released 2015’s More Faithful. “I wrote some songs that were intended for a full band and handed them off to Pete, who helped transform them,” says Jasamine. “I barely knew how to use MIDI so I was just throwing him these experiments I was working on and he fine-tuned my ideas. There are barely any guitars on this album, because I was focused on trying to find new ways to create sounds.”

The EP opens with the 11-minute “Obsession” which melds No Joy’s ethereal harmonies with Sonic Boom’s trancelike style. You can watch the video for the “radio edit” (still 6+ minutes) below.

The No Joy/Sonic Boom self-titled EP is out March 30 via Joyful Noise. You can check out the cover art, created by Richard Philips (known for his photorealistic paintings), and the tracklist, below.

Meanwhile, No Joy’s tour with Baths hits Brooklyn’s Elsewhere on April 19 (tickets). They’ll also play, along with Baths, at Levitation 2018. Updated dates are listed below.
