Nothing release comp & new video, begin tour; Candy opening for Gorilla Biscuits
Heavy shoegazers Nothing released their 14-song rarities compilation Spirit Of The Stairs – B-Sides & Rarities today on Relapse. It features their recently-released Grouper cover, various live sessions and demos, live covers of Ride and Concrete Blonde, and a live-in-studio piano version of “Us/We/Are,” which appeared in a much heavier format on last year’s Dance On The Blacktop. That song comes with a new video (directed and edited by Robert Miron and Nothing’s Domenic Palermo), which compiles various movie scenes of people expressing rage. It’s a cool clip, and it contrasts well with this gorgeously somber version of “Us/We/Are.” Check it out, and stream the full compilation, below.
Nothing are also beginning their tour with Tony Molina and Candy tonight (3/6). The tour begins with three NYC-area shows: tonight (3/6) at Asbury Park Brewery (tickets), Thursday (3/7) at Brooklyn Bazaar (tickets), and Friday (3/8) at Amityville Music Hall (tickets).
After those shows, Nothing and Candy both head to Texas for SXSW (and other stuff), and Nothing are going on a co-headlining tour with Basement (with support from Gouge Away and Teenage Wrist) in May, after Basement’s tour with Weezer and Pixies (which hits NYC’s MSG on 3/12 with TV on the Radio playing too). All Nothing dates are listed below.
While Candy are in Texas, they’ll also be opening for NYHC legends Gorilla Biscuits and Judge at Dallas’ NSFWknd on March 15. Denton, TX’s Razorbumps (who just put out a new two-song single this week) are on that same show, and tickets are still available.
The NYHC guys also have a Youth of Today set in Austin during SXSW at Thrasher Death Match, and after that, they head home to NYC for three Youth of Today shows (night three tickets still available).
Gorilla Biscuits also have West Coast shows with Fury (who are also playing SXSW).
