NYC hiphop round-up: Cousin Stizz, Joey Fatts, Lil Bibby, Lucki, Freeway & more

Lil Bibby with G Herbo @ Playstation Theater (more by PSquared)

As always, NYC has a good amount of upcoming local hip hop shows and tours passing through. Here’s a rundown of some of the cool stuff coming up…

Boston MC Cousin Stizz came into the spotlight after his promising 2015 mixtape Suffolk County. Its follow-up, MONDA, is coming out in July in time for Stizz’s summer tour. He’ll be performing at NYC’s SOB’s on July 21 with San Francisco’s Larry June. Tickets are on sale now. Stizz just released his newest single, “Coulda Been.” You can stream the song and see his tour dates listed below.

Part of the Cutthroat Boyz, along with fellow Long Beach rapper and collaborator Vince Staples, Joey Fatts most recently released his fifth tape I’ll Call You Tomorrow in March. He’ll be performing in NYC at The Studio at Webster Hall July 11 with MCs Retrol$Awesome and Dave Childz. Tickets are on sale now. Fatts’ most recent single, “Action” features A$AP NAST and Playboi Carti. The song and a full list of tour dates are below.

In March, Chicago’s Lil Bibby opened for Pusha T alongside future collaborator G Herbo. Bibby’s last release was 2015’s Free Crack 3 so the G Herbo collab teased in March will hopefully be out soon. Until then, Bibby will be performing at The Marlin Room at Webster Hall on July 14 with Fuego. Tickets are on sale now.

Lucki‘s (fka Lucki Eck$) latest Son of Sam EP came out this March and streaming below. His previous release, last year’s tape X, featured a pre-preeminent Chance feature and before that he also collabed with FKA twigs and Danny Brown. Lucki will be performing at SOB’s on July 19. Tickets are on sale now. All dates are listed below.

In February, Philly rapper Freeway appeared on Lushlife‘s Ritualize along with a list of top-tier guests including Ariel Pink, Killer Mike, Marissa Nadler, RJD2 and more, then in April he released his album Free Will. Freeway will be performing with Lihtz Kamraz, 88, Apollo, Coins & Aime and the NxN Believers at B.B. King Blues Club & Grill on June 19. Tickets are on sale now.

Sixteen live bands will be playing Brooklyn’s House of Hip-Hop Festival in July. (Not to be confused with the 2016 Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival.) The four day event — which runs July 2,3,8, and 9 — features Bishop Nehru, Chelsea Reject, Frank Knight, Stories for DAYS (Jadon and Ghsts N Guitars), I.O.D, Travis Little & The Core and more. The festival takes place at the Knitting Factory, Trans Pecos and The Kimberly Project and tickets are on sale now.

There are still a plethora of great hip-hops acts coming through NYC including Joey Bada$$; Pusha T; Drake and Future; Kanye, the XXL 2016 Freshman Class which features Anderson .Paak, Desiigner, Lil Yachty and more; Vic Mensa and Joey Purp; the annual Fool’s Gold Day Off festival featuring Migos, A-Trak & Friends, Juelz Santana, Lil Yachty and more; Azealia Banks; LiL Uzi Vert, the first Roots Picnic in NYC featuring The Roots, D’Angelo, John Mayer, David Byrne, Nile Rodgers, the Wu Tang Clan and more; Prophets of Rage; the Bad Boy Family reunion shows with Puff Daddy, Lil Kim, Ma$e, Faith Evans and more; Snoop Dogg; Michael Christmas and Tunji Ige; Public Enemy in Betsy Head Park; Digable Planets; Ice-T’s fest with Public Enemy and Mobb Deep and more; Rakim; Mad Decent Block Party; Afropunk 2016; and A$AP Ferg.

Also worth nothing is that YG‘s great new album Still Brazy is out today. Read our review.
