Obituary releasing live album w/ new songs, share "Loathe"
Legendary Tampa death metal crew Obituary have been busy ever since the release of their excellent 2014 album Inked in Blood, touring a ton behind that monster. They’re now getting ready to release a new single/live album culled from their tour behind that record. Ten Thousand Ways to Die features two brand-new songs as well as twelve live tracks from that tour, and they’ve premiered one of the new tracks.
The new song is called “Loathe,” and it’s a big, lumbering crusher of a death metal song. Obituary have always been able to kill at sometimes-slower tempos better than many of their early 90s death metal brethren, and this new track is a lesson in the virtues of the deliberate death metal riff. The band just heaves with volume and power, and each intimidating riff the band breaks out is like a challenge not to bob your head. It’s a crusher, and you can stream it below.
