Of Sinking Ships

Post-rock trio …Of Sinking Ships were formed by Chad Waldrup during his time in the now-defunct Hopesfall, but unlike that band’s post-hardcore, the instrumental OSS are more in line with Caspian or Explosions in the Sky. Like those bands, they use little more than guitar, bass and drums to shift from ambient textures to mountainous crescendos.

Their second album (and first since 2006’s self-titled debut), The Amaranthine Sea, comes out next week (3/25) via Broken Circles Records. Says Chad of the record:

The record is a themed album, and I wanted a title that really summed up the concept of the whole record. The title “The Amaranthine Sea” essentially means the unending everlasting sea. The song titles tell a story and the music is laid out in a story like fashion, the record definitely has ups and downs, climaxes and revelations. In terms of the writing process, the music just decided to come out, and I just had a creative outpouring of ideas. It’s weird, sometimes the writing process is a real craft that requires a lot of work, and other times it’s magical and just comes out. This was definitely a magical writing process for me.

You can pre-order it, but if you want to listen before you buy, check out the full album stream which premieres in this post.
