(black) FLAG

If you’re into video games, or have friends who are — so basically, if you are living — you’ve either played or heard someone talk about playing Grand Theft Auto V during the past week and change. The game, which dropped on September 17, is widely being hailed as a masterpiece, and it’s certainly been commercially successful. GTAV earned $800 million in sales during its first 24 hours on the market and $1 billion during its first three days, which evidently makes it the fastest-selling piece of entertainment media in history. It’s big enough that GTAV will be a major part of this year’s New York Film Festival Convergance Program, with multiple panel discussions and events.

One of the reasons that the GTA series is so popular is because its world is so well fleshed out. You can have a pretty good time just driving around Los Santos listening to the in-game radio, which is frankly much better curated than most real-world radio. You can thank Keith Morris of OFF! and (black) FLAG (whose tour with T.S.O.L. and Cerebral Ballzy hit Irving Plaza last week) for that, among others. Morris not only curated one of GTAV’s radio stations; his other band, OFF!, also contributed an exclusive song to the game. OFF! are currently gearing up to record a new LP, which should see an early 2014 release. We’ve got that new song streaming in this post.
