Okay Kaya shares song, touring, including three unique NYC shows

NYC-via-Norway musician and director Okay Kaya (real name Kaya Wilkins) is releasing her new LP Watch This Liquid Pour Itself on January 24 via Jagjaguwar, and she’s just released her video for newest single “Psych Ward,” which alternates between shots of various people in a hospital-esque setting, landscape scenes, and a strip club. It’s highly surreal stuff, and here’s what Kaya says about the track:

I wrote the lyrics in a very literal way as I often tend to do. When it was time for a music video I took the words ‘do the rounds’ even more literally by making Kaya pole dance in her daydream during her morning fitness routine. The fitness routines were always to an ABBA greatest hits CD, it felt much too ecstatic compared to the heavily drugged hospital bodies, barely out of bed, barely moving. I wanted the video to show that effort, because I am scared to forget. This whole album is filled with moments I am scared to forget, coming right at you projectile style.

Along with the video release, Kaya just announced North American tour dates promoting the new album, which hits LA, San Diego, and San Francisco, along with three seemingly very interesting NYC appearances.

The first is a free solo set at artisan ice cream shop Van Leeuwen Williamsburg on January 27, happening in conjunction with the launch of Kaya’s own vegan ice cream flavor, ‘Eat Your Feelings’ (“a vegan black sesame ice cream flavor”), which will be available for a limited time at Van Leeuwen’s Williamsburg, Lower East Side and Silverlake (Los Angeles) shops. RSVP for that solo set is open now.

After that, Kaya DJs The Whitney‘s Art Party, an annual fundraising event which “welcomes young patrons, emerging artists, and guests from the worlds of art, fashion, business, and entertainment for an evening of cocktails, music, and exhibition viewing.” That happens on January 28 and also features a DJ set from Dizzy Fae and a performance of Darren Bader’s triple DJ by BEARCAT, br0nz3_g0dd3ss, and Riobamba. Tickets (starting at $250 or $200 for Whitney Contemporaries members) and more info here.

Finally, Kaya plays a proper full-band show at Williamsburg’s National Sawdust on February 13. Tickets for that show are on sale now.

In addition, Kaya will be screening all four of her music videos from Watch This Liquid Pour Itself at a pair of special events, happening at NYC’s Film Noir tonight (1/15) at 8 PM and Los Angeles’ Now Instant on January 23. RSVP for the New York and Los Angeles screenings is open.

Kaya will also play Austin’s SXSW in March and Pitchfork Fest Berlin in May. You can find all upcoming dates, and watch all four videos, below.
