Okeechobee Festival in pics & videos

Snakehips had the Now stage reaching euphoric new heights, and BadBadNotGood helped the hordes get lost in the music. Mac DeMarco supplemented his jizz-jazz-style solo work with an endearing – if sometimes horrifying – stage presence and bizarre extracurriculars. The pepperoni playboy punctuated cuts from 2 and his 2015 EP, Another One, with onstage banter that’d make even the most hardened sourpuss crack a smile. After an audience member made the time-honored request for Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Freebird,” DeMarco and bandmates led the crowd in a chant of “Freebird” — “Why haven’t we thought of that before?” he asked. Later, he closed with a cover of Steely Dan’s “Reelin’ in the Years,” an appropriate shout-out to Saturday night’s scheduled powwow with Michael McDonald. [Miami New Times]

The Okeechobee Festival went down in Florida this past weekend with Mac Demarco, Michael McDonald, BadBadNotGood, Anderson Paak, Flume, George Clinton, Kings of Leon, Rae Sremmurd, Sleigh Bells, Solange, The Roots & Usher and more.

The powow with Michael McDonald mentioned in the quote above was a big jam session with the onetime Doobie Brother joined by Gallant, GRiZ, Vulfpeck, Eric Krasno (of Lettuce and Soulive), Antwaun Stanley, members of Snarky Puppy, and more. That super jam is an annual thing at Okeechobee. This year’s was put together by festival booker Ben Baruch and Eric Krasno.

There’s pictures in the gallery above and some videos below of the artists and all the craziness of the weekend, including someone dressed as a dog dressed as a banana (and other wild costumes), some serious headbanging to GRiZ, a talented hula hooper, and some topless marbling. Check out all of the weekend’s madness above and below.
