Old Monk releasing 'Posing as Love' (stream it), touring, playing record release show during Northside

New York trio Old Monk are ready to release their sophomore album, Posing As Love, via Eenie Meenie. Like their 2012 debut the band take catchy indie rock and filter it through a decidedly prog/math sensibility. It equates to guitar pop that is capable of odd rhythms and hairpin time changes, without any excess — not a single song on the album breaks the four-minute mark. The album is out next week (6/10, pre-order yours) but you can listen to the whole thing now — an advance stream is premiering in this post. The band has also created a lyrics site with little tidbits about the references in the song, pretty cool.

Old Monk will celebrate the Posing as Love‘s release June 14 at Matchless as part of Northside Festival. Clouder, Miniboone, Haybaby, The Meaning of Life, and The Planes are also on the bill. The band will also play Brooklyn’s The Flat on July 11 (other bands TBA), the kickoff to Old Monk’s summer tour. All dates are listed, with the album stream, below…
