Oscars reveal Best Song shortlist: Thom Yorke, Kendrick & SZA, The Coup, more

The Oscars have revealed the shortlists for Best Original Song and Best Original Score, which used to be a tradition but they haven’t done it since 1979. According to Variety, they’re hoping the return to the shortlist approach will help make room for newcomers, as the nominations often go to the same composers year after year.

The Best Original Song shortlist includes Kendrick Lamar & SZA‘s “All The Stars,” Thom Yorke‘s “Suspirium,” Sampha‘s “Treasure,” Jonsi & Troye Sivan‘s “Revelation,” Dolly Parton‘s “Girl in the Movies,” The Coup & Lakeith Stanfield‘s “OYAHYTT,” Quincy Jones, Chaka Khan & Mark Ronson‘s “Keep Reachin’,” Lady Gaga & Bradley Cooper‘s “Shallow,” Sade‘s “The Big Unknown,” and more.

The Best Original Score shortlist includes Black Panther, Annihilation (composed by Geoff Barrow & Ben Salisbury), BlacKkKlansman, Crazy Rich Asians, and more.

The shortlists will be narrowed down to five nominees, which will be revealed on January 22. Check out the full Music shortlists below. The Oscars also revealed shortlists for Documentary Feature, Documentary Short Subject, Foreign Language Film, Makeup and Hairstyling, Animated Short Film, Live Action Short Film and Visual Effect, and you can check those out here.
