This was a rough year and losing NYC record store Other Music was definitely one of the bigger city-specific bummers. The store may be gone, but OM remained part of the Brooklyn Flea Record Fair this fall and partners in a new event called Come Together: Music Festival and Label Market which will happen March 26 at MoMA PS1 which will feature “live performances, films, workshops, and panels that celebrate the interactive ecosystem of local and international music communities, as well as a label fair where visitors can explore some of the most interesting and cutting-edge music being released today.” More details will be announced soon and tickets are on sale now.

In the meantime, former staffers have posted their 2016 Top 10 LP lists. From Other Music’s Website:

Hey there friends of Other Music — how ya been? It’s been six months since we locked the door on 15 East 4th Street for the last time, and far too much has happened to all of us to try to catch up here. Yet as the sun sets on 2016, we’d be lying if we said that we had fully moved on from the incredible two decades we all shared together. But for even for the most loyal in the Other Music family, our closing can only be one small part of the tumultuous year that was 2016. So many great and iconic artists have passed this year, so much pain and tragedy and loss in all quarters, it seems that all of us are looking forward right now, ready to turn the page on 2016! But the music — don’t forget the music! In hard times even more than joyful ones, music will sustain us, and there was so much incredible music this year to nurture us all. Spreading the word about great records is what Other Music was always about, and while much has changed, we are thrilled that we can still share some of our favorite releases of 2016 with you! Another sprawling and diverse rundown of records that inspired us, we hope you will find a few unheard gems in here to carry you into the new year!

It’s not the same as seeing them up on Other Music’s dry-erase board, but it’s nice to browse nonetheless. You can check out owners Josh Madell and Chris Vanderloo’s lists below, and the rest the staff and other contributor’s lists are over at the OM website.
