Palehound releasing EP on Exploding In Sound, playing shows

by Andrew Sacher

Palehound is the project of Yonkers, NY songwriter Ellen Kempner (19), who recently signed with Exploding In Sound Records, the label who released the debut EP from Speedy Ortiz, whose singer Sadie Dupuis is a friend of Ellen’s. Palehound’s debut EP, Bent Nail, was recorded by Ava Luna’s Julian Fader and Carlos Hernandez and it will be out via the label on October 22. Not unlike another young artist we recently wrote about, Frankie Cosmos (who has ties to Porches., who are signed to Exploding In Sound), it feels inspired by the anti-folk scene of the early ’00s. And the falsettos on the EP’s single, “Pet Carrot,” kinda sound like “Brand New Key.” You can stream that single, along with the EP artwork and tracklist, below.

Palehound wil be playing a couple local shows this week, including one at Sarah Lawrence College on Wednesday (9/4) and one in Brooklyn at Muchmore’s on Thursday (9/5) with Ben Seretan, Yuko Pep, Trips, and Color Collage.
