Queer pop punk vets Pansy Division return today with Quite Contrary, their first album in seven years, on Alternative Tentacles (order yours). To celebrate release day, they’ve got a new video for “Kiss Me At Midnight,” which premieres in this post. It was directed by Zefrey Throwell, with the concept/design/production by Luis Illades, and it stars various actors lip-syncing the Pansy Division song at a New Year’s Eve party. Given the song’s title and the video’s theme, you can probably guess that this song is about wanting that New Year’s kiss. And by the end of the video, our stars all luck out. Check it out, and stream the entire new album below.

As mentioned, Pansy Division are also touring, including a NYC show on September 24 at Sunnyvale. Since we last spoke, Crazy & the Brains and Teen Vice were both added to that show. Tickets are still available. All dates are listed below.

We also named the album one of this week’s Notable Releases. Here’s some of what we wrote:

Now that their influence is arguably being felt more than ever before — not to mention pop punk in general is having a moment — Pansy Division are back with their first album in seven years, Quite Contrary. Like a lot of classic Lookout! bands, Pansy Division took the Ramones-style approach of speeding up ’60s girl group melodies, and Quite Contrary has them staying true to form and sounding great as ever. The stakes are lower, but it’s a better pop punk album than Green Day’s made in over a decade. And considering homophobia is sadly not over, it’s still pushing all the right buttons. A lot of songs are about love and sex, but then there’s a track like “Blame The Bible” where Pansy Division get political. “Do you want religion controlling your life? / HELL NO,” the band yells repeatedly. It’s hard not to feel something.
