Pedro the Lion & H.C. McEntire played 1st of 2 NYC shows (pics, setlists)

Pedro the Lion are back. Their first album in 15 years, Phoenix, is due in 2019 via Polyvinyl, and they’re on tour now, after returning to the stage this past December for their first time in 11 years. They began a two-night NYC stand at Bowery Ballroom Tuesday night (8/14), playing tons of old favorites mixed with a few of frontman David Bazan‘s solo songs, and the new song “Quietest Friend.” They sounded incredible, and on stage Bazan took a few moments to speak out against assault and harassment, and to talk about the new album and how glad he was to be back with Pedro the Lion again.

Opening the show was Mount Moriah singer H.C. McEntire (and her ace band), who released her very good solo album Lionheart earlier this year on Merge. Bazan could be seen watching H.C.’s entire set from the middle of the floor. Pictures of both acts (including shots of both’s setlists) are in the gallery above.

Pedro the Lion and H.C. McEntire do it again at Brooklyn’s Music Hall of Williamsburg tonight (8/15). Tickets for tonight’s show are still available.
