Pelican announce first new release in 6 years & tour with Cloakroom
Instru-metal greats Pelican have been recording a new album, and while that album is still TBA, they did just announce their first new music in six years. They’re putting out a two-song 7″ on Record Store Day (April 13) via Southern Lord, and it will feature the new songs “Midnight and Mescaline” and “Darkness on the Stairs.” They say more music will be announced soon, and they’ve also just put out a digital deluxe reissue of their last album, 2013’s Forever Becoming. The album was remixed and remastered, and it comes with a “revised” version of the previously Japan-only bonus track “Bardo.” The reissue will also come to vinyl soon and pre-orders are TBA.
Pelican have also announced a tour with sludge-gazers Cloakroom, which is a great pairing. Additional support varies by date and comes from Planning for Burial, Young Widows, and Greet Death.
The run with Planning for Burial includes a NYC show on June 24 at Brooklyn Bazaar. Tickets for that show will be on sale soon. All currently announced dates are listed below and Pelican are promising that more are TBA.
Stay tuned for the new singles. Meanwhile, stream the remixed, remastered Forever Becoming and watch the new video for “Deny The Absolute” from that album, below.
