PETA and The Smiths team up for "Meat is Murder" video game (really)

Here’s something that makes both perfect sense while sounding like an article from The Onion or The Hard Times: PETA have teamed with The Smiths to make 8-bit video game “This Beautiful Creature Must Die” that’s based around the song “Meat is Murder.” The description:

The Smiths’ 1985 classic “Meat Is Murder” is back in 8-bit form for This Beautiful Creature Must Die, PETA’s new online game that features an instrumental arcade-style version of the song on loop. Players must act quickly to save chickens, cows, pigs, and turkeys from being slaughtered by tapping the animals before they fall to the bottom of the screen — while avoiding game-ending bombs.

Sound like fun? The game is pretty tough, especially on a computer using a mouse, and chances are you’ll be seeing something you don’t want to see fairly quickly — where, instead of a “You Lose,” you’re faced with “DEATH FOR NO REASON.” (Gameplay is much better suited to mobile touch screens.) The 8-bit version of the song is kinda cool though. What does Morrissey say about it? “This game is the biggest social crusade of all, as we safeguard the weak and helpless from violent human aggression. You don’t get that from Pokémon Go.” No, you don’t get that from Pokémon Go, Moz. That’s true.
