Petal Magic Gone

Petal announces new album 'Magic Gone,' shares "Better Than You"

Run For Cover labelmates Petal and Camp Cope recently announced a co-headlining US tour, and today Petal revealed that her sophomore album Magic Gone will be out before that tour begins (due June 15 via RFC). Like her 2015 debut Shame, the new album was produced by Will Yip, and it was inspired by some difficult life experiences. Main member Kiley Lotz says:

I was a closeted queer person struggling with chronic mental health disorders; terrified that if I tried to deal with these two major issues in my life I would lose everyone and everything I loved. Coming out was the beginning of a long and continuing process of self-actualization, of taking a hard look at myself and the problems I had and how I could fix them. This record is the result of being the most honest I have ever been in my life, and the constant battle of overcoming the thought that, “maybe if I were just someone else completely, everything would be better.”

The first single is “Better Than You,” which is a similar dose of ’90s alternative rock revival to Shame, and one where you can really feel the pained emotion through in Kiley’s powerful pipes. Listen below.

The Petal/Camp Cope tour begins in June with two Philly shows (night one on sale, night two sold out), and it wraps up in Boston in July, right after hitting the NYC-area for shows on July 19 at House of Independents (tickets) and July 20 at Bowery Ballroom (tickets). All dates are listed below.

Camp Cope recently released their great new album, How To Socialise & Make Friends.
