Mercury Girls

Philadelphia’s Mercury Girls won the battle over use of their name (Toronto’s Mercury Girls are now called Pavilion). With that settled, look for a 7″ out early next year on venerable indiepop label Slumberland. In the meantime Mercury Girls have some shows coming up, including two NYC shows this weekend with Expert Alterations: Friday (12/18) at Alphaville that’s also with Gingerlys, Big Quiet, and DJ Kip Berman (Pains of Being Pure at Heart); and Saturday (12/19) at Cake Shop that’s also with EZTV and DJ Drew Citron (Beverly). Advance tickets are available for the Cake Shop show. On Sunday (12/20), Mercury Girls and Expert Alterations will play live on WFMU starting at 7 PM. All dates are listed below.

Both Expert Alterations and EZTV are featured on a year-end mix put together by Mercury Girls’ guitarist Kevin Attics that has all his favorite songs of 2015. You may remember he did one last year too. Says Kevin:

The sun is setting on 2015 and, again, we’re left to pick up the pieces and make sense of the last twelve months. This year saw a break-out of bands inspired by jagged, dance-y post-punk (WALL, Shopping, SNEAKS), a wave of indiepop with something to say (Spook School, Makthaverskan, Flowers), burgeoning new talent building steam (Wildhoney, Expert Alterations, EZTV, Wallflower)… oh, also Hurry managed to put out a pretty good track.
