Phoebe Bridgers covers “7 O’Clock News/Silent Night” w/ Fiona Apple & Matt Berninger

Phoebe Bridgers Silent Night

Like every year, Phoebe Bridgers has released a new Christmas song. Only this time it’s a more political one than usual, and it features two big guests: Fiona Apple and Phoebe’s “Walking On A String” collaborator Matt Berninger (of The National). It’s a cover of Simon & Garfunkel‘s “7 O’Clock News/Silent Night,” and the “newscaster” portion is read by Matt Berninger, but that portion has been updated to reflect the hellish Trump era. Phoebe says:

Happy Holidays to everyone whose family has been literally or figuratively torn apart by Donald Trump. And to my racist, xenophobic, misogynistic, hypocritical family members, fuck you. Thanks Fiona, Matt, Simon, and Garfunkel.

All proceeds from streams and downloads of the song will go to Planned Parenthood. Listen below.

Phoebe and Matt also both play the 2020 Tibet House benefit concert at Carnegie Hall, and Phoebe and The National are touring together overseas after that. All dates are listed below.
