Phoebe Bridgers covers Manchester Orchestra’s “The Gold” (listen)

Phoebe Bridgers Manchester Orchestra

Phoebe Bridgers continues to stay busy doing very cool things. Just days after collaborating on stage with The National, Phoebe has released a cover of Manchester Orchestra‘s “The Gold,” the excellent single from last year’s A Black Mile to the Surface. Phoebe doesn’t change the song up too drastically, but she performs it in that same intimate, instantly-gripping way that she performs her own music, and really makes the song sound like one of her own (as she has done with other covers, like the Mark Kozelek song she did for her great 2017 album Stranger in the Alps). You can hear her take on “The Gold” below.

Phoebe has a bunch of dates coming up, including more shows with The National (including their two-day mini festival in Queens), as well as shows with American Football, Conor Oberst and Sylvan Esso. She’s got a headlining show at NJ’s Asbury Lanes on 7/31 (tickets), which is two days after she plays NJ’s XPoNential Music Festival. All dates are listed below.

Meanwhile, Manchester Orchestra recently released a documentary and an EP of demos, both related to the A Black Mile from the Surface sessions. They also have a limited edition 7″ coming out on August 3 with recent non-album single “I Know How To Speak” (which is also the name of the documentary).
