Phosphorescent shares twangy, vocoder-fueled "Christmas Down Under"

Phosphorescent (Matthew Houck) has shared a second single from his anticipated first album in five years, C’Est La Vie (due 10/5 via Dead Oceans). “Christmas Down Under” is way different than the Paul Simon-y lead single, which seems like a good sign that this album will not be able to be easily pigeonholed. It’s an atmospheric, swaying ballad that manages to make good use of both vocoder vocals and twangy pedal steel, not to mention a dirty, Crazy Horse-style guitar solo. And maybe it’s just because of the song title, but it feels like you can hear a little of Men At Work’s “Down Under” in the melody too. Listen below.
