Pitchfork unironically posts Jet news

Jet Pitchfork

What would 2000s rock blogging have been without Pitchfork and Jet? They destroyed the band’s debut in a sarcasm-filled review and gave that album’s followup one of the most infamous Pitchfork reviews of all time: a 0.0 accompanied only by a video of a monkey peeing in its own mouth (like that gif below). When Jet broke up in 2012, Pitchfork said goodbye with a snarky article (their first and last news post on Jet… until today).

Jet returned today (with a Bloody Beetroots collaboration), and if you’ve ever wondered if Pitchfork isn’t quite the website it used to be, check out their article on Jet’s return. It does link the album name to the monkey peeing review, but doesn’t acknowledge the content, and in fact, there’s not really a hint of sarcasm or snark at all. If anything, the article, titled “Jet Are Back With New EDM Song: Listen”, seems optimistic about Jet’s return:

Regarding the collaboration, the Bloody Beetroots’ Sir Bob Cornelius Rifo says, “I knew this song needed a certain rock tone… a tone like Nic Cester of Jet had. We thought instead of someone ‘like Nic Cester,’ how about we get the real Nic Cester!” He adds that, after hearing Cester’s work on the track, the members of Jet “started talking and thinking about getting back together.” So maybe there is more to come!

They do end the article with a line that could be read as sarcasm, maybe, but we’re leaning toward sincere based on the rest of it (especially compared to the twist ending of this article).
