Pitchfork’s top 200 albums of the 2010s

Solange at Afropunk Festival 2017
Solange at Afropunk 2017 (more by P Squared)

Yesterday, Pitchfork published their list of the top 200 songs of the 2010s, and today their list of the 200 best albums of the 2010s. For more on how Pitchfork put the list together, you can read a letter from editor in chief Puja Patel.

The list has three metal albums (Deafheaven, Pallbearer, and the more surprising inclusion Portal, who beat out more likely suspects like Baroness), one late-2009 album (Lady Gaga), two “emo revival” albums (Joyce Manor, The Hotelier, but no Oso Oso who became the first “emo revival” band to get Best New Music this year), some possibly surprising and/or sleeper picks (like WU LYF, Ratking, G.L.O.S.S., and more), some very mainstream pop (like Taylor Swift and Ariana Grande), and some surprising exclusions (like Sun Kil Moon, James Blake, Ariel Pink, My Bloody Valentine).

Check out the top 50 below, and see the full list with commentary here. And I guess this means we know Lana Del Rey will be their #1 of 2019.

Head HERE for a rundown of highly acclaimed-by-Pitchfork albums that didn’t make the list.
